  6. QUARTERDECK ANNOUNCES BETA PROGRAM FOR DESQview/X USERS OF
  7. PC-NFS, WOLLONGONG AND BEAME & WHITESIDE NETWORK DRIVERS

  10.    SANTA MONICA, Calif., August 25, 1992 -- Quarterdeck Office
  11. Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: QDEK) announced today at the company's
  12. fifth annual VAR and Developer Conference a beta testing program
  13. for users with SUN PC-NFS, Wollongong and Beame & Whiteside
  14. TCP/IP drivers.  Available in the fourth calendar quarter of
  15. 1992, the new managers for these networks will be incorporated
  16. into the Quarterdeck DESQview/X Network Manager (to Other X
  17. Systems), which is the network interface required to run
  18. DESQview/X on non-DOS networks.
  19.    Users of DESQview/X PCs on PC-NFS-, Wollongong- or Beame &
  20. Whiteside-based networks will be able to run applications
  21. residing on network workstations, mark and transfer (cut and
  22. paste) data from one program to another, transfer files directly
  23. from PCs to workstations and vice versa, and, makes the programs
  24. and resources of the networked PCs available to non-DOS
  25. workstations on the network.
  26.    Quarterdeck is inviting users of these networks to participate
  27. in the Beta testing program.  Interested parties can contact
  28. Quarterdeck's Testing and Compatibility Lab for details.  At the
  29. conclusion of the Beta testing cycle, the new network managers
  30. will be provided free of charge to registered users of the
  31. DESQview/X Network Manager (to Other X Systems), upon request.

  34. configuration options that include popular networking packages,"
  35. said Gary Pope, Quarterdeck's co-founder and executive vice
  36. president, development.

  39. QUARTERDECK ANNOUNCES BETA PROGRAM

  41.    DESQview/X, which was released by Quarterdeck in March 1992,
  42. combines DESQview's multitasking capabilities with a graphical
  43. user interface and is the first complete implementation of the
  44. X Window System under DOS.   The X Window System is the most
  45. widely used standard for displaying information through graphical
  46. windows, regardless of hardware and operating system platform. 
  47. DESQview/X enables DOS PCs and X workstations on a TCP/IP network
  48. to remotely run DOS, Microsoft Windows and X applications
  49. concurrently.
  50.    The suggested retail price for DESQview/X is $275. The
  51. DESQview/X Network Manager, required to interface DESQview/X to
  52. non-DOS networks has a list price of $200.
